On a computer, conversations open as floating windows you can arrange to suit how you work — keep a few going at once, tuck some away, and find any conversation fast.
Open several chats at once
Opening a conversation pops it into its own floating window. You can open several at the same time and they line up on screen, so you can follow multiple conversations without losing your place.
Move and minimize windows
Drag a window by its header to reposition it. Minimize any window and it tucks into the dock on the bottom‑right edge — click it there to bring it back. (For a tour of these surfaces, see Opening your inbox & the messaging surfaces.)
Search your inbox
Use the search box at the top of the inbox to find a conversation by name — a person’s name for a direct message, or a group’s name for a group chat. It matches on names, not on the words inside messages.
On your phone: On mobile, conversations open full screen instead of as floating windows — tap a conversation to open it, and use the back arrow to return to your list.
