Notifications have two separate states — read and dismissed — and it’s worth knowing the difference.
| State | What it means |
|---|---|
| Read | You’ve seen it. It stays in your list but no longer counts toward the unread badge. |
| Dismissed | You’ve cleared it from your inbox — it’s removed from the list entirely. |
Marking as read
Opening a notification marks it as read. To clear the unread badges all at once, use Mark all as read — it’s in the bell menu and on the notifications page. This doesn’t remove anything; your notifications stay in the list, just no longer flagged as new.
Dismissing a notification
To clear a single notification, choose Dismiss. It disappears right away, and a short “Undo” message appears for a few seconds — click Undo if you dismissed it by accident and it comes right back.
Dismissing is permanent after the undo window: Once the “Undo” message goes away, a dismissed notification can’t be brought back. That’s why we give you the few‑second window to undo.
Dismiss all
The Dismiss all action in the bell menu clears every notification at once. Because that can’t be undone, it asks you to confirm first — so a stray click won’t wipe your inbox.
Frequently asked questions
What’s the difference between ‘Mark all as read’ and ‘Dismiss all’?
‘Mark all as read’ just clears the unread badges — your notifications stay in the list. ‘Dismiss all’ removes them from your inbox entirely (after a confirmation).
I dismissed something by mistake — can I get it back?
Yes, if you act quickly: click ‘Undo’ in the message that appears right after dismissing. Once that message disappears, it’s gone for good.
