Use linked fields for information that should come from the presentation’s property, such as an available price or characteristic. Use a formula when the text should show the result of a calculation rather than a manually typed number.
Understand typed text and bound content
| Content | What to expect |
|---|---|
| A typed heading or amount | A literal value that you must review and change yourself |
| A linked field | A value resolved from the selected source field |
| An expression | A calculated result resolved from selected fields, numbers, and operators |
| A downloaded PDF or image | A snapshot of the resolved presentation at export time |
Bindings make reuse easier, but they do not verify the source data. Check the resolved values when opening, reusing, previewing, or exporting a deck. A PDF already sent to someone will not change when property data changes.
Insert one field with Simple mode
- Add a text box from Insert or select the text you want to update.
- Open Link Fields to launch Formula Builder.
- Choose Simple.
- Search for the field or browse its category.
- Select the desired field to insert it into the current text selection.
- Inspect the result on the slide, including the label, value, and formatting.
Use the field appropriate to your meaning. A listing price, an entry-cost figure, and a calculated seller amount may all be currency values, but they do not answer the same question. If a field does not appear or has no usable value, inspect the property source rather than choosing an unrelated number.
Build an expression
- Select the destination text box or text selection and open Link Fields.
- Choose Expression.
- Add available field tokens, numeric values, and supported operators: addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
- Use parentheses to make the intended order of operations explicit.
- Check the live Preview and resolve any validation issue.
- Apply the expression, then check the result on the slide.
For example, if the appropriate verified source fields exist, an expression can subtract a supported cost figure from a supported amount. This describes the arithmetic, not whether those two figures are a complete investment model. Use the actual field picker; do not guess a field name or type an internal binding path into ordinary text.
Check the inputs as well as the result
- Compare each selected field with the property record.
- Make sure the fields describe the same scenario and period.
- Check parentheses and the order of operations.
- Check for missing values or a zero denominator.
- Verify that currency and percentage meanings are clear in the surrounding text.
- Inspect the applied result, not just the preview inside the builder.
A calculation that validates can still answer the wrong question if its inputs or assumptions are wrong.
Reuse and refresh responsibly
When applying a template to a different property, review bound text and manually typed text separately. Check that the new property supplies each required value and that the result is suitable for the new scenario.
Allow property data to finish loading before export. If the editor asks you to wait for the latest property data, let it complete and inspect the slide again. Re-export if important values change after a file was generated.
Troubleshoot unexpected text
If a value remains unchanged, verify that it is bound rather than typed. If it is blank or incorrect, compare the selected field and source record. If an expression cannot be applied, inspect the tokens and validation feedback before adding more operators.
For placement and styling, continue with add and format text. For placing whole property or deal blocks instead of inline values, use property and deal-data blocks.
